Privacy Policy
Effective May 11, 2026
Boshra is built by Muslims, for Muslim families. We treat your data — and especially your child's voice — with the seriousness that trust deserves. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, what we don't, and why.
If anything here is unclear, write to salaam@boshra.ai and a real person will answer.
What we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and the name you choose to associate with your account. That's the minimum we need to let you sign in and to write back to you.
Memorization progress. Boshra keeps a record of which ayāt your child has reviewed, when they were reviewed, and how confidently. This is the bookkeeping the app exists to do — it stays tied to the account and is used to schedule future review.
Recitation audio. When your child recites, the app listens in order to detect likely slips. By default, this audio is processed on-device and is not uploaded to our servers. Where a particular feature genuinely needs server-side processing, we will ask for explicit permission and explain what gets sent and why before sending anything.
Anonymous usage analytics. The Boshra website uses privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are coming from. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
Crash and error reports. If the app or website crashes, we receive a technical report describing what went wrong (via Sentry). These reports help us fix bugs. We work to keep personal content out of them.
What we don't do
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not train machine-learning models on your child's voice or memorization history. We do not show ads inside the app.
This is non-negotiable for us. It is one of the reasons we built Boshra ourselves rather than relying on existing products.
Children's privacy
Boshra is designed to be used by children, typically with the involvement of a parent or guardian. Where applicable law requires verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from a child (for example, the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, or COPPA), we obtain that consent before creating a child account or enabling features that would transmit personal data off-device.
A parent or guardian may, at any time, review what is stored about their child's account, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to salaam@boshra.ai from the email associated with the account and we will help.
How long we keep data
We keep account and memorization data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to close the account, we delete the associated personal data within thirty days, except where we are required by law to keep some records longer (for example, transaction records for tax purposes).
Audio that is processed on-device is not retained on our servers at all. Where audio is processed server-side with your explicit permission, it is deleted after the immediate task is complete.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of trusted infrastructure providers to run the service — for example, a cloud host for our website and database, an email provider for transactional email, an analytics provider for the website, and an error-tracking provider for the app. These providers process data only on our instructions and only to the extent needed to deliver the service.
We do not share your data with any party for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, write to salaam@boshra.ai. We do not charge for these requests and we aim to respond within thirty days.
Security
We follow standard practices to protect your data — encryption in transit, access controls on our internal systems, and minimization of what we collect in the first place. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of Boshra after a change means you accept the updated policy.
